About
On June 6, 2006, a 12-year old Steven Domalewski of Wayne, New Jersey, was pitching in a Little League game when a batter hit a line drive that struck him in the chest.
The sudden impact caused a rare condition called commotio cordis, a sudden disruption of the heart’s rhythm often caused by being struck by a bat, ball or other projectile. Steven’s heart stopped and he had to be revived.
Steven’s story has received media attention throughout New Jersey and the tri-state area. On August 16, Steven was honored by the New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium.
Now five years later, Steven attends the Passaic County Elks Cerebral Palsy High School in Clifton, NJ and is continuing to make great strides. He’s done 40 consecutive treatments in a hyperbaric oxygen therapy chamber where he sits and watches TV while breathing in 100 percent oxygen while under increased atmospheric pressure.
Doctors just finished up a 3-D reconstruction of Steven’s brain for an exact pinpoint of what areas are damaged to allow for transcranial magnetic stimulation. His therapy also includes a chiropractor and he gets massages every other week.
Steve’s latest accomplishment includes walking into restaurants with help from his father.
